so i had this dream last night about this apartment that i lived in when i was a kid. and my mom said it was abandoned and that she left all our pets in it, so i went there to get them back and when i got there the place was overrun with starving skinny animals, like birds without feathers and cats with big eyes and ribcages sticking out and fighting and feral and attacking each other. and i tried to feed them all but they kept killing each other and all my old dogs died. and i don’t know, it really freaked me out man. and then i had another dream about exploring an abandoned house and the cops came and took my camera and i woke up and i thought my camera was gone. but it wasn’t but mostly the point is that the houses in my dreams are all falling apart with green leaf vines growing through the floor boards and this one was like three stories tall and missing a wall. and it was gorgeous and i wish the places in my head existed in real life.
So, I think you're a rather great photographer. I mean, you're pushing the boundaries as far as I can tell, and all your photos are so different yet still feel like... you. I hope that makes sense. I mean, if you want to stop then do so, that bit is on you. But I'd rather see you keep going at it and keep making amazing images.
oh yeah... a question... er... What is your favorite camera / film to shoot with?
thank you. i guess i get down on myself a lot and each time i get closer to quitting. this seems to happen to me with all forms of art i attempt —which is why i don’t write or paint anymore. but i’ll keep on keepin’ on. at least for now.
i use a nikon d90 regularly, so i suppose it’s my favorite. but i use my grandfather’s nikon f sometimes and i really like that for the sentimental value, since he’s dead now and he was a photographer in the 60’s and 70’s. he also gave me this mamiya tlr i really need to try out, if only i could figure out how it works.
Hi, your photos are lovely. I just wanted to ask, because I saw it on your stream somewhere, where you got your raccoon-tailed hat? I've been looking everywhere, ha.
thank youu. :] i got it at a tourist shop just outside the grand canyon in arizona. but i’ve seen it randomly at gas stations, specifically in the western united states. i’m sure you could find one on ebay for real cheap!
I was wondering, when you do your self portraits in restaurants and such, do you just set up your tripod and go or do you ask the owners of the restaurant first? Is it casual?
usually i just do it real casual and sneaky-like, ha. unless i want to do something elaborate, or if it’s going to take awhile. or if it’s in a place where they sell merchandise —those places sometimes think you’re like, a spy for another store or something, so it’s good to ask.
Your photos are really really good! Yours is the only Tumblr that has made me look for abandoned houses in my town. There were none :( I'm gonna keep looking though. I'll have my little Lumix ft2 ready! Haha.
thank you! keep looking, i’m sure you’ll be able to find some. if you google “abandoned” and your town/state (or you can search on flickr too) that might help. good luck! :]
i love your tumblr and flickr! i've been following you for a while, and i live in chicago, and i think that we should go shooting together sometime :) (i'm getting a new camera soon!)
it would be really awesome if you checked out (and if you enjoy, then possibly follow) my new tumblr. it’s called the video mixtape project, and it’s half my portfolio/half tribute to some of my favorite music…
thankyou! that would be awesome, i always like meeting new people to take pictures with. :] i checked out your new tumblr, i like the idea a super lot, so i’ll be following.
